Practical Approach to the Patient with Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD).

Kenneth -- Cusi, MD

University of Florida

This session aims to help the endocrinologist be aware of the high-risk of cirrhosis in people with obesity, metabolic syndrome and T2D and develop the skills to identify early-on those at the highest risk and when to refer them to the specialist. We will review the use of currently available medications for obesity and T2D proven to be effective in steatohepatitis to prevent disease progression. Also discuss the role of a recently MASH-specific FDA-approved medication and others in the pipeline. Finally, the audeince will learn about the higher risk of T2D and of cardiovascular disease in people with MASLD and how to intervene to prevent or treat.
