The talk reviewed how thyroid-disrupting endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) such as phthalates, bisphenols, PCBs, flame retardants, PFAS, and pesticides affect growth and development, with a focus on brain…
There is a rapidly-growing body of evidence that EDCs can affect every step of thyroid hormone synthesis, transport, metabolism, and action, and exposures to some EDCs have also been associated with increased thyroid cancer risk. This session will address mechanisms for thyroidal endocrine disruption; effects of thyroidal EDCs on growth and development in the fetus and in early life; and the role of EDCs in thyroid carcinogenesis, noting associated data related to health disparities.
