Adolescents: Assessment and Management of Hypercholesterolemia

Session Description

Today, there are so many medications for lowering cholesterol, making it difficult to know which drug to use in an individual patient.  Statins are still the gold standard of treatment, but other medications to add to statins include monoclonal antibodies to PCSK9, a small interfering RNA (siRNA) that targets PCSK9 and is long-acting, a cholesterol absorption inhibitor, a citrate lyase inhibitor and bile acid sequestrants.  This session will discuss the effectiveness, safety and mechanisms of action of medications approved for cholesterol reduction; cholesterol management in adults without heart disease (primary prevention) and cholesterol management in adolescents.
